The level of water in the Mahakali River has exceeded the danger level with the incessant rains pouring down in Sudurpaschim Province for some days.

According to Police Inspector Ishwor Thapa at the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, the risk of the flood from various rivers including the Mahakali has increased following the continuous rains in the district.

Seventy families who were affected by the Doda River flood have been shifted to a safer place.

Settlements at Bhimdutta Municipality-12 have been inundated following the flood from the Bhujela River.

The water level has significantly increased in the Doda, Jogbudha, and Mahakali rivers.

Following the rising water level in the Mahakali, the movement of four-wheelers along the Sharada Barrage Bridge has been restricted since Friday morning.  The flow of water has been measured at 351,000 cusecs.  Whenever the river's flow exceeds 10000 cusecs, the movement of heavy vehicles has been banned in view of the dilapidated condition of the Sharada Barrage Bridge.

Other rivers in the district are flowing above the alarming levels. Rain continues posing further risk. The District Administration Office in Kanchanpur has urged the people residing along the low-lying areas to remain vigilant to possible consequences with preventive measures.
