A fresh earthquake has rocked far-western hilly district of Bajhang on Wednesday morning.
According to Dr. Lokbijaya Adhikari, a senior seismologist at the National Seismological Center, Lainchaur, an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale was recorded at 10:08 am with its epicenter at Majhigaun in Bajhang district.
"This is not an aftershock, but a fresh earthquake," Dr Adhikari told Nepalkhabar.
The tremors were felt in neighboring districts including Humla, Bajura, Achham, Doti, Baitadi, and Darchula, locals have said. However, no damages or any casualties have been reported until the posting of this new.
Nepal lies in a fault zone as the Indian plate is constantly pushing against the Eurasian (Tibetan) plate, resulting in seismic activities in the Himalayan country, said Geographer Ganesh Kumar Jimee.
Jimee further said Nepal lies between the two tectonic plates -- Indian plate and the Eurasian Plate -- and their constant push against each other is creating energy. When the energy gets accumulated and strained, it releases in the form of seismic waves.
