Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Nepal Police, Chhabi Lal Joshi, has been arrested in connection with the embezzlement of cooperative funds.

A team of police on Sunday arrested Joshi from Kathmandu at the request of the District Police Office, Kaski.

Acting on the report submitted by the parliamentary investigation special committee on the misuse of cooperative funds, the police took Joshi under control. The committee had recommended that Joshi be brought to justice.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak earlier in the day had sent the report to the Nepal Police headquarters directing the latter to bring Joshi into justice.

Similarly, the Committee has also recommended that former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane be brought to justice.

An FIR had been lodged at the DPO, Kaski against Lamichhane and Joshi in the fund embezzlement case of Surya Dharshan Cooperatives.

On February 7, 2024, the police had carried out raid on the Shankhamul-based house of Joshi.

Police had recovered a transaction evidence of over Rs 10 billion involving Gitendra Babu Rai (GB) during the raid.  The transaction details carried out with Surya Darshan Cooperative (Pokhara), Sahara Cooperative (Chitwan), Sanopaila Cooperative (Birgunj), and Supreme Cooperative (Butwal) were seized from Joshi's house.
