Minister of Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that the Security Printing Press in Panauti Municipality-5 will be fully operational.

Talking to media persons after inspecting the press today, he said the press will come into full operation based a plan to manage necessary funds for it. "The Ministry will now proceed to fully operate the security press. Investigation over matters concerning the purchase of equipment for the press will be finalized soon."

Minister Gurung said that coordination with the Ministry of Finance will be carried out to complete the construction of warehouse and other under-construction structures, and thereby put the press into full phase operation.

He was of the view that once fully operational the press will be used to print postage stamps, label-stickers, land ownership certificates, citizenship, national identity card, driver's license and school identity cards, and in the second phase, passports and currency notes will be printed.

Due to the lack of budget allocation in the last financial year physical construction and other management works has stopped.

After the press comes into operation, it is expected to save billions of rupees of the country that was being spent abroad for security printing.
