Foreign Minister Rana, US Acting Under-Secretary Bass meet to discuss vivid issues

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, who is presently in the US in the course of attending the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), met with Acting US Under-Secretary for Political Affairs, John Bass.

In the meeting held in New York last night, both were hopeful that the exchange of this level of visit would contribute to further consolidating the bilateral ties.

The Minister said the US-Nepal partnership for Nepal's economic, trade, and other development is significant. Highlighting the Nepal-US 77 years long close, deeper, and collaborative relations, they touched on issues such as democracy, human rights, and freedom, the shared values of Nepal and the US, according to Nepal's Permanent Mission to the UN, New York.

She utilized the moment to say that the exchange of bilateral visits at various levels in the past had contributed to further strengthening the bilateral ties.

She acknowledged the US support to Nepal's socio-economic development, remembering the Nepal-USAID  five-year agreement package worth US dollar 659 million for the improvement of education quality in Nepal ) 2022-2027). She expected continued support from the US in the days ahead.

The Minister also expressed her happiness over the happening of the Nepal-US Seventh Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council Meeting recently in Kathmandu.

As she said, Nepal has adopted an easy transition transformation strategy to upgrade it to a middle-income developing nation from the category of the Least Developed Countries by 2026 and Nepal needs support from the US for resource management and economic partnership to make this historic milestone a meaningful and sustainable.
