More than 550 flights are taking place a day from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

The number of flights has soared due to the upcoming Dashain festival and the damaged roads caused by the floods and landslides, the airport office has said.

As many as 559 flights including both take-offs and landings took place on Monday alone.

According to Rinji Sherpa, the spokesperson at the TIA, 227 flights took off and 221 flights landed yesterday towards domestic flight services.

While 55 flights took off, 56 flights landed towards international flight services.

The roads in various places have been damaged by the floods and inundation caused by downpour since September 27, bringing the transportation to a grinding halt.

The domestic flights could not operate smoothly for three days due to inclement weather, which further gave rise to the demands of flight tickets.

There are as many scheduled flights today (Tuesday) as there were yesterday, the airport office has said.
