Nepal, America sign bilateral consultation mechanism 77 years after diplomatic ties

Nepal and America have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) 77 years after the dipomatic ties.

The MoU on the BCM was signed by Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba on behalf of Nepal and Mr. John Bass, Under Secretary for Political Affairs of the U.S. Department of State amidst a ceremony held at the US Department of State in Washington on Monday.

Posting a message on X, Foreign Minister Rana writes, "A historic milestone in Nepal-USA relations was achieved with the signing of a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) memorandum of understanding (MOU)."

According to the X message, the agreement has laid a solid foundation for promoting bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, and infrastructure.

"This agreement facilitates deeper cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, and infrastructure, thereby strengthening the foundation for meaningful and mutually beneficial collaboration between Nepal and the United States," reads the X message posted by Foreign Minister Rana.

The BCM was signed with America, the second oldest country to sign a diplomatic relation with Nepal after Britain.

The diplomatic relations had been signed between America and Nepal in 1947. The United Kingdom is the first country to sign diplomatic relations with Nepal. Nepal and Britain had singed a diplomatic ties in 1816.

While Nepal established bilateral consultation mechanism with many other countries, it was signed with America only 77 years after diplomatic ties.
