Bhutan has registered its first win in the SAFF Women's Championship by defeating Sri Lanka.
In the match held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar, Bhutan clinched a 4-1 win over Sri Lanka.
While Bhutan played a goalless draw with Nepal in the first match, Sri Lanka defeated Maldives in the first match. With the win, Bhutan has notched up four points while Sri Lanka has three points from a win.
With the win over Sri Lanka, Bhutan is likely to reach the semifinals. Deki Lhajom scored two goals while Namgyel Dema and Dorji Edon scored one goal each for the win of Bhutan. Similarly, Thushani Madusika scored a consolation goal for Sri Lanka.
In the 79th minute, Namgyel Dema widened Bhutan's lead after she scored a goal capitalizing the pass from Namgyel Pema.
Similarly, in the 76th minute, Deki Lhajom scored another goal utilizing the pass from captain Pema Choden Tshering, taking the score to 3-1.
Earlier, Bhutan took the lead after Deki Lhajom scored the first goal utilizing a cross from Namgyel Dema in the seventh minute of the first half.
Sri Lanka registered a goal after Thushani Mudhushika scored the goal in the 23rd minute of the first half. Bhutan doubled the lead after Dorji Edon scored another goal in the 32nd minute.
Home team Nepal and Maldives are locking horns in the second match of Group 'B' today. The match will start at 5:30 pm at Dasharath Stadium. Nepal has one point while Maldives is at the bottom without points in the group stage.
