Ecuador have defeated four-time world champions Germany 2-1.
With this win, Ecuador have entered the knockout stage of the ongoing World Cup-2026. Despite the defeat, Germany have secured a place in the Round of 32.
They have won their previous two matches and made it to the last 32 by becoming the winner of Group ‘E’.
Ecuador, which were held to a goalless draw with Curaçao, who played in the World Cup for the first time, performed a brilliant game against Germany last night in the match played at the New Jersey Stadium in New York.
Germany took the lead in the second minute of the game through Leroy Sane’s goal. However, Ecuador’s Nilson Angulo scored against Germany seven minutes later to equalize the game.
Ecuador scored the decisive goal against Germany in the 77th minute of the game.
Ivory Coast has also entered the knockout stage with 6 points from Group ‘E’. Ivory Coast advanced to the last 32 by defeating Curacao 2-0 in Thursday night's other match.
