Nepali is all set to export 40 megawatts (MWs) of electricity to Bangladesh for a single day tomorrow.
The electricity will be exported to Bangladesh via Indian transmission line at 12:45 pm on Friday, the Nepal Electricity (NEA) Authority has said.
NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising said the power export will begin following a virtual inauguration ceremony jointly conducted by the energy ministers of Nepal, India and Bangladesh.
Although a trilateral agreement was reached in Kathmandu on October 3, Nepal's power export to Bangladesh was delayed due to the lack of necessary approvals from India.
"We will export 40 megawatts of electricity for one day tomorrow," Ghising told Nepalkhabar, "Then, Nepal will export electricity to Bangladesh from June 2025."
The NEA will export electricity generated from the 25-megawatt Trishuli and 22-megawatt Chilime hydropower plants to Bangladesh.
The aforementioned power will be transmitted to Bangladesh through India's 400-kV Muzaffarpur-Beharampur-Bhedamara transmission line.
The NEA has stated that the power export deal has been signed for a duration of five years.
Nepal will sell electricity to Bangladesh at the rate of 6.4 US cents per unit, according to the agreement.
