CPN (UML)'s Janga Bahadur Shahi has been elected as the Chairperson of Mahabu Rural Municipality in Dailekh district in the local-level by-election held on Sunday.

Shahi has received 3,127 votes.

His closest rival Nepali Congress's Jhalak Bahadur Bhandari received 2,675 votes. Similarly, CPN (Maoist Center)'s Janga Bahadur Baral received 842 votes, and Rastriya Swatantra Party's Prakash Kumar Budha received 112 votes, according to the Election Office.

UML's Janga Bahadur Shahi, who was elected as the chairperson, was elected as the chairperson of Mahabu Rural Municipality in the local-level election held in 2074 BS.

Subsequently, when the party split, Shahi, who joined the CPN (Unified Socialist), became a candidate from the Unified Socialist in the 2079 BS local-level election in Mahabu Rural Municipality.

He had received 2,200 votes at that time. However, Shahi was given a ticket after he rejoined UML in this by-election.

In the 2079 BS election, NC's Lachhuman Gurung won the post of chairperson of Mahabu Rural Municipality by getting 2,979 votes.

UML's Hari Prasad Upadhyay received 2,519 votes and United Socialist's Jung Bahadur Shahi received 2,268 votes.
