The United Nations General Assembly has officially adopted a landmark resolution proclaiming the period from 2027 to 2036 as the "International Decade of Strengthening of Peace for Future Generations."

The global initiative, introduced under UN document A/80/L.54, was put forward by the Republic of Tajikistan. It aims to actively cultivate a global culture of peace by driving dialogue, reconciliation, international cooperation, and solidarity across different generations. The resolution marks a major step forward in urging Member States, civil society, and global stakeholders to build a sustainable and conflict-free framework for the youth of tomorrow.

India strongly backed the resolution, a move that officials say highlights the country’s enduring commitment to the core principles of the United Nations, multilateralism, and the proactive promotion of global stability.

While commenting on the scope of the new initiative, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon emphasized that true harmony requires collective ownership on the world stage.

"Peace is responsibility. Peace is respect for human dignity and honor. Peace is ensuring justice and equal opportunities for all humanity," President Rahmon stated following the resolution's adoption.

The adopted text calls upon the UN system, individual governments, and global partners to facilitate the implementation of the decade over the next ten years, utilizing the framework to share best practices in conflict prevention and social cohesion.
