The High Court Janakpur has convicted former Member of House of Representatives (HoR) Laxmi Mahato Koiri and suspended province assembly member of Madhesh Province Assembly Abhiram Sharma and others on the charge of killing Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Nepal Police Thaman BK.
Acting Chief Judge of the High Court Janakpur Tek Narayan Kunwar and Judge Murari Babu Shrestha handed down such a verdict, sending former MP Mahato, suspended province assembly member Sharma and four other convicts to five years in jail.
The Court on Thursday also sentenced Dharmendra Ray, Ramshankar Mishra, Suresh Pandey and Pawan Kapar to five years in jail.
Furthermore, the Court announced lifetime imprisonment to defendants Pradip Sah Majhi, Sanjay Kumar Sah and Mohan Thakur on the same case, the Court's Information Officer Ganesh Pandey said.
Prior to this, Mahottari District Court had granted a clean chit to former MP Mahato and Pawan Kapar, and lifetime imprisonment to Sah Majhi, Sah and Thakur some two and a half years ago, Information Officer Pandey stated.
The then Nepal Police ASI BK was beaten to death in 2015 during the time of Madhesh Movement.
