One killed as minibus plunges into Karnali River; rescue continues

A minibus has fallen into the Karnali River near Sangetada on the Karnali Highway under Chamundabindrasaini Municipality-7 in Dailekh. The body of a passenger on the bus has been found, and the search is ongoing.

The Armed Police Force has said that the body of a young man who met with an accident on Thursday was found stuck on a cliff near the river bank. DSP Shailendra Thapa, the joint spokesperson of the Armed Police Force, informed that the body of one person was found stuck on a bank. The identity of the man has not yet been revealed.

The ill-fated bus (Ka Pro 02-001 Kha 1055) heading to Kalikot from Surkhet fell into the Karnali River about 500 meters below the road.

According to the District Police Office, Dailekh, a team of 35 people led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police has been mobilized to the incident site with rescue equipment. The accident site is about 50 kilometers west of the district headquarters, Dailekh.

Meanwhile, rescue teams from the Armed Police Force, Dailekh, Upper Karnali Hydropower Project Security Base and Police Post Paltada have also been deployed for rescue after the accident.
