Nepali Congress has made a clean sweep of the by-election held in Kirtipur Municipality.
NC candidate Krishnaman Dangol has been elected as the mayor of Kirtipur Municipality. Krishnaman got 5,334 votes. His closest rival Shiva sharan Maharjan of Maoist Center obtained 4,555 votes.
Similarly, UML's Surendra got only 4,337 votes. Independent candidate Rajman Maharjan obtained 2,036 votes and another independent candidate Kabi Kumar Maharjan got 1,314 votes, according to the Election Office.
UML's Surendra Manandhar, Maoist Center's Shiva Sharan Maharjan, and independent candidate Rajman Maharjan were in the fray for the post of mayor of Kirtipur Municipality.
In the 2079 election, NC's Rajkumar Nakarmi had won the post of mayor of Kirtipur Municipality by securing 9,043 votes. UML's Kesharatna Bajracharya had secured 5,507 votes at that time.
NC wins both ward chairs
NC's Ichchha Kumar Maharjan was elected as the chairman of Kirtipur Municipality-1 with 562 votes, while UML's Harsha Maharjan got only 498 votes.
In the previous election, NC's Hiralal Maharjan was elected in this ward, defeating UML's Harsha Maharjan.
Similarly, NC's Rajendra Baniya won in Kirtipur-4. He got 742 votes, while independent candidate Pavita Khadka received 495 votes.
In the previous election, Shyam Kumar Adhikari had won the post of chairman of this ward as an independent candidate. He received 1,380 votes.
Rajendra Baniya of Congress had been placed in the second place. He had received 1,057 votes, while UML's Ishwar Kumar Baskota had received 236 votes.
