CPN (UML)'s Uma Magar Sherpa has been elected as the vice chairperson of Gauri Shankar Rural Municipality of Dolakha district.
In the by-election held on Sunday, Sherpa secured 2,805 votes while her closest rival Nimaleki Sherpa of CPN (Maoist Center) obtained 2,600 votes.
Similarly, Pashdiki Tamang Sherpa of Nepali Congress obtained 1,727 votes, the Office of the Election Officer said.
In the previous election, Maoist Center's Bishwas Karki had been elected as the chairperson and Shyam Sundar of Nepali Congress had been elected as vice chairperson of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality.
Out of 15,718 voters in the rural municipality, 7,589 votes had been cast in the by-elections held on Sunday.
A total of 16 candidates from various political parties and independents had participated in the by-election.
