Sudurpaschim Royals has registered a second consecutive win in the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2024, by inflicting a 73-run win on Katmandu Gurkhas.
Kathmandu was bowled out for 94 runs while it was chasing the 168-run target set by the opponent.
To limit the opponent to paltry 94 runs, Sudurpaschim's Naren Saud took the highest 5 wickets conceding 19 runs followed by Abinash Bohara with 2 wickets while Brandon McMullen and Saif Zaib grabbed 1 wicket.
None of the batsmen of Kathmandu scored significant runs. Stephen Eskinazi made the highest 37 runs followed by Sumit Maharjan with 14 runs while Gerhard Erasmus and Bhim Sarki contributed 10 runs each.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Thursday, Sudurpaschim notched up 167 runs losing 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Sudurpaschim's Brandon McMullen topped the score with 53 runs studded with 3 fours and 4 sixes off 36 balls followed by captain Dipendra Singh Airee with 43 runs while Binod Bhandari and Saif Zaib contributed 35 and 11 runs, respectively. The other batsmen could not achieve double-digit runs.
In reply, Rashid Khan took the highest 2 wickets while Karan KC, Shahab Alam and Gerhard Erasmus grabbed 1 wicket each for Kathmandu.
This is the second consecutive win for Sudurpaschim. It had defeated Biratnagar Kings by 90 runs in the first match.
Conversely, this is the second loss for Kathmandu, It had lost to Chitwan Rhinos by 5 wickets in the first match. In the second match, however, it defeated Karnali Yaks by 3 wickets on Wednesday.
