A documentary on Italian cuisine, A Taste of Italy, produced by Nepali chef Tanka Sapkota, has been screened in Portugal. The documentary premiered on Portugal's National Television channel, TVI on February 2.

The docufilm delves into the traditions of Italian cuisine, exploring its food culture, lifestyle, and iconic dishes. Directed by Portuguese filmmaker Tiago Pedro de Carvalho, the documentary features Sapkota as both the presenter and a central figure. It is presented in both Portuguese and Italian.

Sapkota, who has spent the past three decades in Europe, sharing the flavors of Italian cuisine, is renowned for his deep connection to the craft. The six-episode series takes viewers on an authentic journey through the origins of Italian culinary traditions, unveiling some of its best-kept secrets, it is said.

It may be noted that the restaurant, Forno d'Oro operated by Sapkota in Portugal, was recognized as one of Europe’s best restaurants last year when he also discovered black truffles (an underground mushroom) for the first time in Portugal, in collaboration with trained truffle-hunting dogs, Italian truffle hunters, and the University of Évora.

Additionally, Sapkota launched a month-long free food campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic, aimed at supporting individuals who had lost their jobs and for 1,000 people from low-income households in Portugal. (RSS)
