The protest program against the Pathivara cable car construction project was called off following a six-point agreement reached between the representatives of the Home Ministry and the agitating parties.
The situation had become tense after the Mukkumlung Protection Joint Struggle Committee, the Cable Car Abolition Struggle Committee, Mukkumlung Tangsep Chumbho, and the Mukkumlung Protection Inter-Party Struggle Committee upped the ante and jointly announced a shutdown in nine districts east of the Arun River.
The agreement was reached at a meeting held at Himalayan Hotel in Lalitpur on Tuesday. The Pathivara cable car project has been called off with further discussions planned for the next meeting, according to a member of the talks facilitation team.
The agreement states that those injured during the protest will be provided free medical treatment and that legal action will be taken against the guilty in the January 25 incident after investigation.
The government has also agreed to unconditionally release the detainees held during the protest.
The two sides have also agreed to hold another meeting on February 9 at 11 am to discuss the issues in detail including the suspension of the transport shutdown by the Mukkumalung protectors.
The six-point agreement was signed by Saraswata Singak (Saru) on behalf of the agitating parties and Joint Secretary Prem Prasad Bhattarai, on behalf of the government.
