The first Janakpur International Film Festival (JIFF) is going to be held with the aim of internationalizing the Nepali film sector while promoting its market and exploring potential and opportunities.

The Sambad Foundation is to host JIFF 2025 from coming February 28 to March 2. The JIFF is being organized with the aim of internationalizing Nepali films, motivating young filmmakers and promoting cultural diversity, shared Kumar Bhaskar, head of Sambad Foundation, at a program organized in Lalitpur today in the presence of filmmakers and media persons. He said that a campaign is being taken ahead to explain the importance of films in Nepal, present Nepali films to the world, provide inspiration and opportunities to Nepali youth and establish Nepal on the international film stage.

Speaking on the occasion, Film Development Board Chair Dinesh DC expressed his belief that the festival will be an important medium to market Nepali and Mithila films in the world.

Executive Chair of National News Agency (RSS) Dharmendra Jha emphasized that the process of Nepali cinema production needs to be changed, as we have not been able to convey the local context in cinema. I hope that this event to be held in Janakpur will find something new,” he said.

Actress Rekha Thapa said that Mithila is the mother of civilization, art and women, and the festival will highlight that importance while senior film producer Madhav Wagle said that they are having problems in making films including the story of the Mithila region as it is very expensive to depict the Mithila civilization.
