The main opposition CPN (Maoist Center) has designated in-charges to revive ethnic forums created during the decade-long insurgency. The party has assigned General Secretary Dev Gurung as the coordinator of identity-based organizations of various ethnic groups in Nepal.

A meeting of the central committee of the party held in Kathmandu on January 5-7 decided to revive ethnic forums that became inactive following the promulgation of the Constitution.

According to the circular dispatched on Sunday, Deputy General Secretary Matrika Prasad Yadav has been assigned as the in-charge of Madheshi Mukti Morcha. Similarly, former Deputy Speaker Onsari Gharti has been assigned to oversee the Janajati Mahasangh (Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities).

Likewise, Hakikullaha Khan Musalman has been picked as the in-charge of Muslin Mukti Morcha Nepal, and Parshuram Ramtel has been entrusted with the responsibility of the Dalit Rastriya Mukti Morcha, the Maoist Center said.

Naresh Bhandari has been given the responsibility of Karnali Rastriya Mukti Morcha while Trilochan Bhatta has been assigned as the in-charge of Seti-Mahakali Mukti Morcha.

The Maoist party had created forums based on geography and ethnicity during the insurgency. However, these ethnic organizations gradually became less active following the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal on September 20, 2015.
