Nepali Army Major General Chok Bahadur Dhakal, who was deployed in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), has been injured in an attack by a mob of agitators.
He was injured when a group of protesters intercepted and vandalized the convoy carrying Deputy Force Commander Dhakal of the Peacekeeping Force near Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
According to the Nepali Army the Directorate of Public Relations and Information, the incident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday.
Major General Dhakal, who was injured in the attack by the mob, was immediately rescued and taken to the 'UN Level 3' Hospital in Beirut. Dhakal is out of danger, the hospital said.
Deputy Force Commander Dhakal was returning home after completing his term when he came under attack.
The UNIFIL issued a press release stating that it was shocked by the attack on peacekeepers serving to establish security and stability in South Lebanon.
"The United Nations strongly condemns the attack and demands that the Lebanese government immediately investigate the incident and bring the guilty to book," reads the press note issued by the UNIFIL Mission.
Similarly, the Prime Minister of Lebanon and Lebanese Armed Force said investigation into the incident would be carried out immediately and those involved in the attack would be brought to book.
