The car that met with an accident claiming the lives of three Nepali pilgrims.
A car accident in India has claimed the lives of three Nepali pilgrims returning home from the Kumbh Mela, a religious festival in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
The victims have been identified as Ganesh Khanal (45), his wife Deepa Khanal, 35, and Geeta Sharma, 40, all residents of Devdaha Municipality-9 in Rupandehi, Nepal.
The accident occurred on the Azamgarh-Varanasi road in Uttar Pradesh, India, when the car, UP 53 FD 4288, they were traveling in collided with a divider. Five other passengers, including the driver, sustained injuries in the crash. Among the injured are Kopila Pokharel, her son Shubham Pokharel, Abiskar Parajuli, Yamkala Devi Magar, and the Indian driver, Ritesh Dubey.
A group of 35 pilgrims had traveled to India in five vehicles on February 15 to participate in the Kumbh Mela. The accident happened as they were returning to Nepal.
Rupandehi Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire confirmed that they had received news of the accident.
