A Qatar Airways flight carrying Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Arzu Rana was diverted to Kolkata, India, on Friday due to poor visibility at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.
The flight, carrying Minister Rana, who was returning after attending the 58th Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, attempted to land in Kathmandu but was unable to do so due to adverse weather conditions.
"The Qatar Airways flight carrying Foreign Minister Rana was diverted to India," confirmed Rinji Sherpa, spokesperson for TIA. "The flight attempted to land but, after circling in the sky, was forced to divert due to low visibility."
Minister Rana participated in the Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva from February 24-26. The flight was en route from Doha to Kathmandu when the diversion occurred.
Several other flights were also affected by the inclement weather conditions at TIA on Friday.
