Health Minister Pradeep Paudel .
Health Minister Pradeep Paudel has stated that the government is making preparations to provide salaries to doctors and nurses in accordance with the Labor Act.
Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of the Nepal Medical Association in Kathmandu on Tuesday, he made this statement. He also informed that the Council of Ministers has already given approval to recruit 500 doctors at once through the Public Service Commission.
He stated that the government is moving forward with plans to increase the salaries of doctors and nurses in both the public and private sectors as prescribed by the Labor Act.
He said, "Since our currency value is lower than others, salaries are many times higher elsewhere. This is one of the reasons why our manpower is leaving for employment abroad."
Despite a significant number of doctors being produced and many improvements in the Nepal's health sector compared to the past, the biggest challenge is that they are not staying within Nepal. "It is necessary to be serious about how to create a situation where doctors could stay in Nepal," said Paudel.
