As the Holi, the festival of colors, has commenced on Thursday morning, traffic police in the Kathmandu Valley have intensified their checks. The police have tightened checks to ensure Holi celebrations are conducted in an orderly manner.

The police have stated that the increased scrutiny aims to control unruly behavior, such as throwing water-filled balloons, and driving under the influence of alcohol, which often occur during Holi celebrations.

Police are stopping vehicles and conducting checks in areas including Thapathali, Tripureshwar, New Road, Kantipath, Durbar Marg, Bhadrakali, and Baggikhana to determine if drivers have consumed alcohol.

Meanwhile, Nepal Police have urged the public to celebrate Holi in a disciplined, civilized, and vigilant manner. They have also requested people to refrain from playing Holi on rooftops and other risky locations to prevent potential accidents.

To ensure orderly Holi celebrations, police have deployed teams to conduct checks at over 90 locations in Kathmandu. Drones are also being used to monitor public areas during the festivities.

As many as 2,706 security personnel including Nepal Police and Traffic Police have been deployed to this effect, according to police.
