Pro-monarchy demonstrators on Friday staged a protest that turned violent, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and 110 injured. Additionally, 14 incidents of arson were reported.
The protest, led by medical professional Durga Prasai, turned violent in the Tinkune area.
According to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, one journalist and one protester lost their lives. The deceased have been identified as 29-year-old Sabin Maharjan from Kirtipur Municipality-4 and Suresh Rajak.
Rajak was a journalist working for Avenues Television, while Maharjan was a participant in the protest. Maharjan, who was critically injured, was taken to the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj but was declared dead at 4:05 PM. Rajak was found dead in the Marvel House in Tinkune.
During the protest, 53 Nepal Police personnel and 22 Armed Police Force members were injured. On the protesters' side, 35 individuals were reported injured.
Damage to vehicles and arson attacks
As the protest turned violent, demonstrators vandalized and set fire to 15 vehicles, according to police reports.
The District Police Range, Kathmandu stated that 15 vehicles including nine government vehicles and six private vehicles were damaged. Incidents of vandalism and arson also occurred during the protest.
Out of the 14 arson attacks, 9 involved damage to institutions and offices. Additionally, one incident included both vandalism and looting.
