A woman has been found dead in the Panchakanya Community Forest area in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-6 of Sunsari district.

A local found the woman's body under a tree while grazing cattle. After seeing the semi-naked body, the local informed the police. Police suspect that the woman may have been murdered.

The identity of the woman, believed to be around 30 years old, has not yet been established, said Sunsari District Police Chief, SP Suman Kumar Timalsina.

As soon as the information about the discovery of the body was received, a joint team was mobilized from the Area Police Office Dharan, District Police Office Sunsari, and the Koshi Province Police Office, Biratnagar.

"We have started investigating the incident," SP Timalsina told Nepalkhabar. "The investigation is being carried out using sniffer dogs and a forensic team at the site where the body was found."

Based on the condition of the body and preliminary observations of the crime scene, police suspect that the woman was strangled to death. According to SP Timalsina, it appears that after the murder, the body was placed under a tree.

Police have stated that the nature of the incident is extremely gruesome and suspicious.

The body has been sent to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for a postmortem. Police say efforts are underway to identify the woman.
