Nepal Police have deported 47 foreign nationals arrested for engaging in unethical and illegal activities across major tourist hotspots in Kathmandu, officials stated on Friday.
Addressing a press conference, Kathmandu District Police Range Spokesperson SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai shared that a targeted operation was launched following local complaints. A total of 57 foreign women were detained from popular areas like Thamel and Durbar Marg, where many had arrived in view of Nepal's affordable living and nightlife assuming that illicit acts would go unchecked.
Out of those arrested, 47 women have been formally deported through the Department of Immigration to their respective countries, including Uganda, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Kenya, and Indonesia. Police further shared that investigations into the remaining 10 individuals are currently ongoing.
During the conference, SP Bhattarai also highlighted crackdown efforts on organized online gambling networks that siphon large sums of money abroad via hundi and cryptocurrency. Additionally, police revealed that 309 middlemen obstructing public services have been detained, with legal action initiated against 61 of them.
