Sapana Pradhan Malla has once again been entrusted with the responsibility of the Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma assigned Malla the responsibility of the Acting Chief Justice as he is on a visit to India.
Malla is the senior-most Justice.
Even before Sharma was appointed as the Chief Justice, Malla had held the responsibility as the Acting Chief Justice for a long time.
The relationship between Sharma and Malla soured after the Constitutional Council meeting held on May 7 recommended Sharma, who was ranked fourth, as the Chief Justice. Justice Malla was ranked first. At that time, she also held the position of Acting Chief Justice.
After Sharma took charge as the Chief Justice, Malla took a 20-day leave. Even after Malla returned from leave, she has not shared a bench with him. Despite having bad terms, Malla reached Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to see off Chief Justice Sharma for his India visit.
Sharma left for India at the invitation of his counterpart Surya Kanta on Thursday. The delegation accompanying Sharma includes his wife Uma Sharma and Co-registrar Amit Uprety.
Sharma will return to Nepal on July 27.
