Two earthquakes occurred in seven hours in Jajarkot, a hilly district of Karnali Province.
According to senior seismologist Dr. Lok Bijaya Adhikari, an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck at 9:31 PM on Monday and the other (4.4 on the Richter scale) occurred at 4:43 AM today.
Both the quakes were epicentered at Paink in Kushe Rural Municipality, according to the National Seismological Center, Lainchaur.
However, no casualties have been reported from these quakes, the District Police Office, Jajarkot said.
Earlier, on April 3, 2025, two earthquakes had occurred at Paink as their epicenter.
The tremors have been occurring in the western hilly districts, of late.
Nepal lies in a fault zone as the Indian plate is constantly pushing against the Eurasian (Tibetan) plate, resulting in seismic activities in the Himalayan country, said Geographer Ganesh Kumar Jimee.
Jimee further said Nepal lies between the two tectonic plates -- Indian plate and the Eurasian Plate -- and their constant push against each other is creating energy. When the energy gets accumulated and strained, it releases in the form of seismic waves.
