Tourist arrivals up 50% in Mustang in 2081 BS compared to previous year

The arrivals of tourists in the trans-Himalayan district of Mustang were encouraging in 2081 BS (2024-25) compared to the previous year.

According to the Jomsom Office of the Annapurna Conservation Area, the tourist arrivals increased by about 50 percent in 2081 BS compared to the previous year. In 2080 BS (2023-24), the district had welcomed a total of 96,645 foreign tourists while this figure soared to 144,745 in 2081 BS (April 13, 2024 to April 13, 2025), with the rise by 49.76 percent.

Office Chief Rajesh Prasad Gupta said the arrivals of tourists from the SAARC nations increased by 53.71 percent in the year 2081 compared to the previous year. They numbered 117,614 and the remaining 27,131 were from various countries. Tourists from 72 countries visited the district in 2081 BS.

Towards the SAARC countries, 80 percent were from the immediate neighboring India. They mostly come here to pay homage to the famous Muktinath temple. According to the Office, in 2080 BS, tourists from the SAARC region numbered 76,516.

In recent years, Mustang continues to welcome an increased number of tourists with its accessibility by road. The construction of the Beni-Jomsom-Korola road has made the journey to the mountainous district easier. (RSS)
