Nepali Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Maya Rai who was arrested for her alleged involvement in the cooperative fraud cause has been remanded to three days in custody.
Kathmandu District Police Range Office, presented Rai, who was arrested from her Kalanki-based residence in Kathmandu on Saturday, in the court for the extension of her remand this afternoon.
Rai is the former deputy secretary of Kalimati-based Swarnalakshmi Cooperative.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the depositors claiming that Rai misappropriated funds while she was deputy secretary at the cooperative, the police arrested her and kept her in custody for investigation.
A case has been filed against 39 individuals including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane in the Swarnalakshi embezzlement case.
