The flood triggered by continuous rainfall in the Roshi River in Mapti, Kavre, washed away the diversion, blocking the BP Highway for eight hours.
The District Police Office, Kavre, informed that efforts have been underway since Monday night to reopen the blocked highway. According to Police Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Min Bahadur Ghale, the flood damaged the road section toward Mangaltar in Roshi Rural Municipality-12. He stated that the highway could not be reopened after the flood caused further damage last night.
Ghale shared that efforts have been underway since this morning, led by a police team and locals, to open the highway, even if only one-way traffic is restored.
Meanwhile, police reported that the search for a missing woman began this morning after she went missing in the flood following continuous rainfall on Monday afternoon.
Renuka Giri, 33, a resident of Subbagaun in Panauti Municipality-5, went missing after being swept away by a flash flood in the Dhalmale stream while returning from a fair on Monday evening.
Police stated that although a police team and locals continued the search, it was suspended late Monday night after she could not be found.
This morning, a joint team comprising Nepal Police, Nepali Army, and Armed Police Force was mobilized to resume the search, Ghale informed.
Monday’s rainfall also inundated areas around the Panauti Bus Park. Additionally, farmers reported damage to potato fields after floodwaters entered the cultivated land.
