Tremors have been felt in the central part of Nepal. The tremor was felt in Pokhara and its surrounding districts.
According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC), Lainchaur, an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale jolted the central part of the Himalayan country with its epicenter at Sinuwa in Kaski district. The tremor was recorded at 1.59 PM, according to the NEMRC.
However, no damages or casualties have been reported until the posting of this news.
Earlier, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake had occurred with its epicenter in Jajarkot on April 4.
Nepal lies in a fault zone as the Indian plate is constantly pushing against the Eurasian (Tibetan) plate, resulting in seismic activities in the Himalayan country, said Geographer Ganesh Kumar Jimee.
Jimee further said Nepal lies between the two tectonic plates -- Indian plate and the Eurasian Plate -- and their constant push against each other is creating energy. When the energy gets accumulated and strained, it releases in the form of seismic waves.
