Major General of the Nepali Army Deepak Kumar Baniya is set to retire from his job.
Baniya will retire on June 6 upon the completion of his tenure as the major general.
He would have got his tenure extended by two more years had the Chief of Army Staff wanted to do so. However, his tenure is not going to be extended as he has already been ordered to go on leave 15 days prior to the expiry of his tenure, according to military secretary Dhruva Kumar Karki.
Retiring Baniya has been asked to hand over his responsibilities to Brigadier General Diwas Raj Regmi, who is currently serving as the director at the Directorate of the Military Organization.
A meeting of the NA's PSOs held on December 18, 2018 had formulated a rule requiring generals of the Nepali Army to go on mandatory leave 15 days prior to the expiry of their tenures.
Baniya has been on leave since Thursday.
