An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale has struck Jajarkot, a hilly district of Karlani Province.
According to Chintak Timsina, the chief seismologist at the Seismological Center, Surkhet, the earthquake was recorded at 2:25 PM today with its epicenter at Ramidanda in Barekot Rural Municipality.
This is an aftershock of the previous earthquake, according to Timsina.
Tremors were felt in Jajarkot along with its surrounding districts, he said.
Earlier, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake had occurred with its epicenter in Jajarkot on April 4.
Nepal lies in a fault zone as the Indian plate is constantly pushing against the Eurasian (Tibetan) plate, resulting in seismic activities in the Himalayan country, said Geographer Ganesh Kumar Jimee.
Jimee further said Nepal lies between the two tectonic plates -- Indian plate and the Eurasian Plate -- and their constant push against each other is creating energy. When the energy gets accumulated and strained, it releases in the form of seismic waves.
