Two people were killed and four others sustained injuries after being hit by a brake-failure bus in Thaha Municipality-3, Makwanpur, on the Tribhuvan Highway.
The incident occurred on Monday evening around 6:59 PM when a passenger bus (Ba 3 Kha 5990) was heading to Thana Bazar from Gopali village.
The bus hit pedestrians walking on the road before crashing into the house of Bharat Gopali, the Deputy Mayor of Thaha Municipality, the police said.
The deceased have been identified as Krishna Balami of around 40 years old, whose address is yet to be ascertained, and Lokendra Kumar Thakur. Both died at the Primary Health Center in Palung at 7:25 PM in the course of treatment.
Meanwhile, the critically injured, Raghunandan Yadav and Kamalesh Kumar Sah, have been referred to Kathmandu’s Trauma Center for further treatment.
The other two injured are Cheyang Dorje Lama (resident of Simra Sub-Metropolitan City-17, Bara) and Ramgulam Chaudhary (resident of Kolbi Municipality-1, Bara). Their condition is reported to be stable, and they are being treated in Palung.
After the accident, the police took 29-year-old bus driver Rajesh Karki, a resident of Thaha Municipality-5, into custody. The Area Police Office, Palung, stated that further investigation into the incident is underway.
