A court-martial (military court) has been formed to take further action against Brigadier General of Nepali Army, Roshan Khadka, who is accused of embezzling over 20 million rupees from the Army Welfare Fund.
During the preliminary investigation by the Court of Inquiry, it was confirmed that Khadka was involved in irregularities while handling the fund, leading to the court-martial for his punishment.
Brigadier General Khadka and Major Bodh Raj Karki have been placed in military custody as the trial begins. Meanwhile, two other retired army personnel involved in the scam have been charged in Kathmandu District Court. Among them, Warrant Officer (second class) Atmaram Thapa is in custody for further investigation.
Former Major Laxman Adhikari, who is currently in the US, has been declared a fugitive, and efforts are underway to repatriate him with the help of Interpol.
The four individuals allegedly embezzled funds from the Army Welfare Directorate’s Housing and Insurance Section by creating fake beneficiaries and siphoning money. The Army claims they misappropriated over Rs 22.1 million through 144 checks between 2017 and 2018.
Retired Warrant Officer Thapa, in custody, has stated that he carried out the fraudulent transactions under the direction of Brigadier General Khadka.
