The government has appointed Dr Gopal Bhatta as the chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON).
A cabinet meeting held on Friday decided to appoint Dr Bhatta as the chairman of the Board. Bhatta, who is also a former executive director of Nepal Rastra Bank, is a resident of Kailali.
A PhD at Stock Market, Dr Bhatta has also served as a member of the Sick-Industry Rehabilitation Committee of the Government of Nepal.
A committee was formed as per Sub-section 3 of Section 7 of the Securities Act 2063 to recommend names for the appointment of the board chairman. The committee had sought details of interested persons on April 28. A total of 47 candidates had applied for the post within the stipulated deadline.
Out of them, the recommendation committee had shortlisted the names of Bhatta, Dr Nawaraj Adhikari, Binaydev Acharya and Mukunda Kumar Chhetri. Out of them, 3 names were submitted to the cabinet.
The government appointed Bhatta as the chairman based on this recommendation.
