In a major legal development, the organized crime charges against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane have been dropped across all districts, following a final ruling by the Kathmandu District Court on Friday.
A single bench of Judge Atmadev Joshi at the Kathmandu District Court ordered the withdrawal of the organized crime lawsuit against Lamichhane. This follows identical decisions by the district courts of Kaski, Rupandehi, and Parsa, exonerating him of organized crime allegations nationwide.
Furthermore, a money laundering case previously filed against the RSP chief at the Kaski District Court has already been withdrawn.
Cooperatives fraud case remains active
While Lamichhane and other co-defendants—including Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai—have been cleared of organized crime and money laundering allegations, they are not entirely out of the woods.
All respective district courts have maintained that the primary cooperatives fraud cases will remain active and proceed as scheduled.
With these rulings, the legal focus shifts entirely to the cooperative fraud allegations, stripping away the additional, more severe charges of organized crime that Lamichhane and his associates were previously facing.
