An Air India plane crash that occurred on Thursday in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, has claimed the lives of 241 out of a total of 242 passengers, including crew members. Only one passenger has survived.
Air India, through the social media platform X, confirmed that out of the 242 passengers aboard flight number AI-171, which was involved in the accident, 241 have died, and the lone survivor is undergoing treatment.
Among the deceased are 12 crew members and 229 passengers.
According to Air India, the deceased passengers include 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, one Portuguese, and one Canadian citizen.

The 12-year-old Boeing 787-8 aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew.

The only survivor of the crash is an Indian-origin British citizen named Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, who was seated in seat number 11A. He is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
A statement released by Air India stated, "The plane crashed shortly after takeoff. The flight was en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick."
The plane had taken off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM on Thursday but crashed merely two minutes after takeoff.
