The Flood Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning, regarding potential floods and alerts for preparedness today.

According to the bulletin, the water levels of the Koshi, Karnali, and Mahakali rivers, along with their major tributaries, as well as the Eastern Rapti, Western Rapti, Kankai, Kamala, Bagmati, and Babai rivers, are expected to remain below the alert level for the next three days.

However, flood conditions may fluctuate, and the water levels of the Narayani River and its major tributaries are likely to remain around the alert level, necessitating general caution in riverine areas.

As per the Flood Division's information, there is a risk of flooding in 37 districts and surrounding areas across the country, including Kathmandu, today.

Today, in most small rivers flowing through Panchthar, Tehrathum, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Khotang, Kavre, Makwanpur, Kathmandu, Gorkha, Tanahun, Lamjung, Kaski, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Nawalpur East, Nawalpur West, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Rupandehi, Banke, Dang, Pyuthan, Jajarkot, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, Doti, and nearby districts, the water flow is expected to increase, requiring vigilance in riverbank areas.

Among these, the Flood Division has issued a "Yellow Alert" (Cautionary Warning) for 18 districts. These include Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Khotang, Gorkha, Tanahun, Lamjung, Kaski, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Nawalpur East, Palpa, and Rupandehi.

According to hydrologist engineer Sauhard Joshi, who prepared this bulletin, the Yellow Alert indicates that water levels are approaching the alert threshold, posing a moderate flood risk. A Green Alert signifies that water levels remain below the alert threshold, indicating a low flood risk.

An Orange Alert means water levels are exceeding the alert threshold, signaling a high flood risk. A Red Alert indicates water levels surpassing the danger threshold, representing an extremely high flood risk.
