Thirty-five Nepali youths, who were held captive in Kashipur in the Indian State of Uttarakhand, under the false promise of attractive employment, have been rescued.
According to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, the victims were lured to India from various districts with false promises, where they were held captive and subjected to physical abuse, torture, and financial exploitation.
After being tipped off about the incident, under the guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy, in collaboration with Uttarakhand Police and a local social organization, carried out the rescue operation on June 19.
Following the rescue, Uttarakhand Police have arrested some individuals involved in the incident. The Embassy has stated that search and rescue efforts are underway, as there are suspicions that Nepalis may still be held captive in other locations.
The Embassy has informed that the rescued individuals will be repatriated to Nepal after completing the legal procedures.
