The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has provided information on today's weather conditions.
During the day today:
According to a weather bulletin issued by the Division at 6 AM today, some areas in the hilly regions of Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, and Lumbini Province, along with a few other provinces, as well as isolated areas in the remaining regions, are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall amidst thunder and lightning. A few places in Gandaki Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpaschim Province may also witness heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rain/snowfall is expected in a few places in the country's high hilly and mountainous regions.
Tonight:
Many places in the hilly regions of Koshi Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpaschim Province, along with a few places in the remaining regions, are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning. A few places in Koshi Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province, and Sudurpaschim Province may also experience heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rain/snowfall is possible in a few places in the country's high hills and Himalayan regions.
According to meteorologists, within 24 hours:
- Light rainfall: Less than 10 mm of rain.
- Moderate rainfall: Between 10 to 50 mm of rain.
- Heavy rainfall: Between 50 to 100 mm of rain.
- Very heavy rainfall: Between 100 to 200 mm of rain.
- Extremely heavy rainfall: More than 200 mm of rain.
Similarly, when it is said that rainfall will occur in "one or two places," it means that less than 10% of the area in the respective province is likely to receive rainfall.
- If rainfall is expected in 10% to 30% of the area, it is said that "a few places may receive rainfall."
- If rainfall is expected in 30% to 50% of the area, it is said that "some places may receive rainfall."
- If rainfall is expected in 50% to 80% of the area, it is said that "many places may receive rainfall."
- If rainfall is expected in more than 80% of the area, it is said that "most places may receive rainfall."
