Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that Nepal has already entered the important phase of economic development following the establishment of the republic.

Delivering her keynote address at the Rising Nepal Summit 2025 hosted by Nepalkhabar, former President Bhandari said that Nepal has advanced into the journey of prosperity.

"I have taken this Nepalkhabar-initiated discourse on country's prosperity in high regard," said Bhandari, "We have already advanced into an important phase of economic development following the establishment of federal democratic republic."

She said that Nepal should work toward building socialism on the basis of social justice and equality. She suggested that attention should be focused on sustainable mobilization of investment.

“Political parties should play their respective roles in implementation. The government should take the initiative by conducting a thorough review of existing policies,” she said, calling for cooperation in the country’s journey toward prosperity. “The opposition should provide constructive support. Only then the doors to domestic and foreign investment will open. It will help achieve sustainable development goals.”

Stating that it is a favorable time for economic development, she stressed the need to properly utilize fertile agricultural land, water resources and minerals.

"The path to economic prosperity should be set by bringing into operation sick industries and utilizing natural and cultural heritage. A production-oriented economy should be built," said former President Bhandari.

Since indigenous skills and technology are essential for economic development, she said that Nepali capital and other investments should be attracted through an investment climate.

"A long-term plan should be formulated and a trustworthy environment should be created with the help of two neighbors, Nepal and India," she said.
