Mechi Crowne Plaza Deputy Managing Director Ashlesha Karki said that the tourism is an important sector for improving Nepal's economy.
Karki said this while addressing the Rising Nepal Summit organized by Nepalkhabar's Rising Nepal Summit 2025 held at Soaltee Hotel in Kathmandu on Thursday.
"The hospitality sector was the hardest-hit sector due to COVID-19. Hospitality and tourism are the most important sectors for the economic sector of Nepal," she said, "We have opened hotels in and outside the Kathmandu Valley to increase tourists. Some improvement is seen."
When asked about the volume of investment in Nepal's tourism sector, she said, "Currently, there is an investment of 543 billion in tourism from 2023 to 2024. To double this, the government should digitize the business process."

Stressing the importance of tourism in the prosperity of the country, she suggested that attention should be paid to bringing in luxury and spending tourists.
"We should focus on bringing in more luxurious tourists, and more spending tourists when it comes to tourism promotion," she said.
The government should support this by building infrastructure," she said, "not only in Kathmandu, but also outside of it. Businessmen come here at a high risk of investment, banks and the government should support them."
She also said that there is a lot of potential in religious and mountain tourism in Nepal.
