Two of the 26 social media platforms that were banned for their failure to register have been listed.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology issued a press release today stating that Hamro Patro and Global Diary have been listed.
"It is hereby informed that Hamro Patro and Global Diary Pvt. Ltd., run by Smart Idea Pvt. Ltd., have been listed and activated as of September 7, 2025 after the ministry formally deactivated the social media," the ministry's spokesperson Gajendra Thakur said in a press release.
Similarly, the ministry has already provided the details requested by X and WeChat for the registration, reads the press release.
Speaking to Nepalkhabar, Thakur added, "The ones who were said to have been contacted are WeChat and X. They have also not sent us any other details. Since Saturday and Sunday are their holidays, they might send details by tomorrow."
Similarly, the ministry has stated that access to unlisted social media platforms has been banned and requested not to use unsafe and risky VPNs to access such networks.
The ministry has also said that efforts are being made to make social media platforms manageable without banning them.
The government had issued a notice on August 28, giving a one-week deadline for registration. However, the ban was imposed after no organization came forward to list within given deadline.
