The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has directed to close down websites and apps that are preparing to broadcast FIFA World Cup matches in an unauthorized manner.
The Authority on Thursday sent a letter to all mobile and internet service providers and directed them to close down 35 websites and apps.
The Ministry of Information and Communications had, earlier, written to the Authority to close down unauthorized websites and apps.
The Authority has said that the pirated, unauthorized websites and apps have been blocked from streaming the FIFA World Cup 2026 stating that the exclusive and official broadcasting rights for the World Cup 2026 within Nepal have been obtained by Himalaya Sports under Himalaya Television Network and Dego JVHTV - a Broadcasting Consortium JV under DishHome Digital Pvt as per the directive of the concerned ministry.
These are the 35 websites and apps that the authority has directed to be banned.
