An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Kathmandu and Lalitpur since early morning today.
Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabilal Rijal has clamped an indefinite curfew inside Ring Road of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City since 8 am today. It will remain effective until further notice.
The curfew has been imposed in line with Section 6 (a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, according to the statement.
Activities including assemblies, rallies, demonstrations, meetings, sit-ins are not allowed in these designated areas during the curfew, according to the statement.
Areas under curfew
The curfew will remain effective in areas from Balkumari Bridge to Koteshwar Chowk to Sinamangal, Gaushala, Chabahil, Narayan Gopal Chowk, Gongabu, Balaju, Swayambhu, Kalanki, Balkhu to Bagmati Bridge of Kathmandu metropolis.
Essential means of transportation including ambulance, fire engines, hearses and vehicles carrying media persons, medical persons, human rights officers, diplomats and air passengers are allowed to travel.
Similarly, the curfew has also been imposed in Lalitpur. The local administration office has imposed the curfew in various places of the metropolis since early morning today.
According to a press note issued by Lalitpur Chief District Office Suman Ghimire, the curfew will take effect until Tuesday midnight (12 am Wednesday).
Apart from Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, the curfew has also been imposed in Bhaktapur.
Bhaktapur Chief District Officer Nama Raj Adhikari issued the curfew since 8 am until the further notice.
The curfew has been issued following the violent demonstration on Monday that claimed the lives of 19 people including 17 in Kathmandu and two in Sunsari.
A large number of Gen Z staged a demonstration at New Baneshwar against the corruption, irregularities and nepotism and social media ban.
In view of the violent protest, the curfew has been imposed in all the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley.
